GROUNDED: DEVELOPING FLOOR-BASED MOVEMENT OPEN LEVEL
AUGUST 19: SPECIAL GUEST INSTRUCTOR, LAUREL DESMARAIS Class begins with gentle centering exercises to integrate core movement patterns, breath-support and embodied awareness. Progressions include finding the relationships between fall and rebound, articulation and flow, momentum and kinetic range. In class students will explore a technical foundations for clearly articulated expression using elements of contemporary ballet, release technique and somatic practices. This class strives to create the environment for dancers to explore multi-dimensional organic movement that can translate into any setting.
Laurel has been a movement educator and freelance artist for the past eight years in New York City. She has taught for institutions as Dance New Amsterdam, Chez Bushwick and the Dance Forum Festival in Sweden. “I am interested in the exchange of knowledge, sharing what I know and learning from others, constantly investigating the language of movement.”
AERIAL HAMMOCK OPEN LEVEL
The aerial hammock (or sling) borrows techniques from aerial fabric and dance trapeze, as well as a vocabulary all its own. It is a wonderful apparatus that allows for spinning and swinging movements below, & exciting mid-air movement above. This workshop is open to all levels
Invented Apparatus open level
"Invented apparatus" is a broad term that is used to describe any structure that falls outside of the traditional apparatus' generally used in aerial dance. These structures challenge the aerialist to experience new possibilities & offer endless options to explore. This workshop is open to all levels
OPEN PRACTICE LEVEL 2 & 3
This session is to give Level 2 & Level 3 students an opportunity to work on anything they have been wanting to spend some extra time on. An instructor will be on hand to offer advice & assist in spotting.
